6 fashion rules curvy women should ignore

For curvy women, the unspoken set of rules still applies in fashion, to rely on black and loose clothing. Dare something and try the latest trend? Don’t! We have a different opinion and are finally doing away with the outdated fashion rules.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned in recent years, it’s that women with curves can be just as proud and self-confident with their bodies as women with supposedly perfect dimensions. There has long been no such thing as perfect and anything that feels good is allowed – this is especially true when it comes to fashion. Gone are the days when fuller women only dared to step outside in black sackcloth. It’s high time to break THESE six fashion rules!

1. Wear black

Black is great – no question about it! But let’s be honest: Who wants to be in an all-black look all the time in winter when you can also have a strong yellow or bright red? The trend is toward what is known as “dopamine dressing”: Colorful outfits make people feel happy even in the gray season. If the cut of your favorite dress flatters your curves and just looks great on you, bright wow colors are just the right choice.

2. Crop tops are only for super thin people

Total nonsense! With the currently ubiquitous belly-free trend, it is the combination that counts. Ever thought of wearing the crop top with a high-waisted pencil skirt? Or a combination of high-waist trousers and a long waistcoat? You may initially feel more comfortable if the waistband of your skirt or pants is cut high enough so that only a small strip of skin is visible above the waist.

3. The further the better

Interestingly, it’s the other way around. Bags of clothing with a baggy cut destroy every silhouette and are not particularly advantageous for curvy women. It is much more important to emphasize your chocolate sides. Do you have a small waist? Show them off with a pretty belt or A-line dress. Are you proud of your legs? Then a pencil skirt or narrow trousers can look totally sexy. If you want, you can also wear a trendy bodycon dress that shows off the whole body thanks to the tight-fitting cut.

4. Pattern apply

The same applies here: If the cut is right, you don’t have to do without patterns. Whether it’s a striking leopard print or a cool check – whatever you like is allowed! And if you want to be on the safe side: simply combine a sample piece with a plain-colored one – this way you bring the necessary calmness to your look and also set a nice focus.

5. No shorts from size 38

Even with a size larger than 38, shorts can look cool and casual. If you don’t want to pull your hot pants out of the closet right away, you can grab Bermuda shorts (which are currently very popular again!) and combine them with a long vest or cardigan. High sandals or shoes with wedge heels also stretch optically and conjure up endless legs.

6. Bikinis are a no-go

If you feel comfortable in your body, show it! Why should you wear a conservative swimsuit and long swimming shorts when you’re proud of your curves? If you feel sexy and are at peace with yourself and your body, you’ll look fabulous in a bikini too.
