CoD players are starting to believe that Modern Warfare 2 might feature fan-made custom modes, after a user spotted a hint that the game will support Steam Workshop on PC.
For the first time since the early 2000s, there will be no Call of Duty title in 2023 after Treyarch’s next project was pushed back a year. This means Modern Warfare 2 will have to keep players busy for twice as long as usual.
Although Infinity Ward incorporates many exciting new features and mechanics into the campaign and multiplayer mode, keeping the community engaged through 2024 won’t be an easy task.
According to one observant gamer, fan-made modes could be a way to extend the longevity of Modern Warfare 2, as he noticed a hint that the game might be compatible with the Steam Workshop.
MWII will be the sequel to Modern Warfare, released in 2019.
Fan-made modes on Modern Warfare 2?
Steam Workshop is part of Valve’s service where players can share mods and custom creations for their favorite games that support this feature. According to Reddit user AnotherGibaway, Modern Warfare 2 could be one of those games when it launches in November.
He claims to follow the game on Steam, which means he receives a notification when mods are released on Steam Workshop, and he recently received one for Modern Warfare 2.

Mods are a popular way to breathe new life into a game, allowing the community to be creative and share cool new features with each other. That’s why a series like Halo introduced these to allow players to experiment with wacky ideas.
For now, this is all speculation until the developers confirm that mods will be supported. But there’s no doubt that Steam Workshop could be an interesting method for players to engage with Modern Warfare 2 in a different way.
