Customs fair – stage for volunteer work: ambassadors of folk culture

Nobody can say how much time they had left over the decades to maintain traditions. But they were happy to do it, the ambassadors of folk culture who were honored at the customs fair on Sunday.

In 2015, ambassadors of popular culture were honored for the first time. Many Carinthians work for free in their free time, with full commitment to folk culture, customs and tradition, promote community in their clubs, and pass on traditions to future generations. Their achievements are also an incentive for the young people. As a sign of appreciation for their commitment, they were awarded a certificate and, as a visible symbol, a pin. It is at the same time a request and a mandate to continue to keep the traditions alive. Thomas Zeber was deputy chairman from 1994 to 2000 and has been chairman of the Hochstadler Buam Irschen Schuhplattler group since 2000, which has 60 active Plattlers. Hermann Sorger was the founding chairman and is now Honorary chairman of the Lavamünder Buam Schuhplattler group and, since 2000, deputy state chairman of the Association of Homeland and Traditional Costume Associations in Carinthia. Andrea Egger has been a folk dancer since 1993, a children’s dance director since 1999, and chairwoman of the Millstätter See/Seeboden folk dance and Schuhplattler group since 2014, which has 75 active members. Egon Pleßnitzer has been a dancer, Schuhplattler and musician since 1999, a Vorplattler since 2007 and was also chairman of the folk dance and Schuhplattler group Millstätter See/Seeboden. He is active as a muscant at seminars.Edda Holzer founded the children’s folk dance group Seeboden 40 years ago, which has already taken part in festivals in Tunisia, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Greece, Turkey and Croatia. The 27th International Youth Folk Dance Festival was held in Upper Carinthia in July. Gert Seiser was the inspiration behind the founding of the kuk traditional gendarmerie in 2010. In recent years he has been active in countless operations and deployments of the traditional gendarmes at home and abroad .Hermann Ebner has been a member of the Metnitz Privileged Rifle Corps band since 1960 and was already an active musician when 96 percent of current musicians were not yet born. The deputy lieutenant was a clothing supervisor and always had a sewing kit in the bass drum for emergencies…Daniela Hackl was active in the Lindwurm folk dance group as a child, learned to play the flute and harp, and completed the Carinthian Dance Leader Academy, from which she was the youngest graduate to graduate with honors . She has been a dance leader since she was 16. She also choreographs new folk dances, leads the folk dance and sports holiday camp Move the Lake in Feld am See, is a dance leader at seminars in other federal states and plays with the Moosburg theater group. Amalia Winkler has supported the Carinthian customs association for decades with exhibitions in the country house and with the empirical Research into song, dance and music helped.Gerhard Steiner was a master shoemaker, built a private shoe museum in Obervellach and works to preserve the Altmölltal traditional costume.Maria Tarkusch is chairwoman of the Jauntal Gold Hooded Women Kühnsdorf and a member of the regional management of the Carinthian regional team.Monika Petrinja is chairwoman of the Pischeldorf band hat women’s group and a member of the regional management of the Carinthian Landsteam. Heidrun Planton is a choir director, herbalist and craftswoman, for example she is involved in fabric printing. Otto Tripp is chairman of the Gottscheer Landsteam association, which was founded in Klagenfurt in 1980. Every year he organizes the international Gottscheer Culture Week in the state capital.Hans Kräuter has been singing with the MGV Scholle Haimburg since 1965 and has already held a number of positions. Since 2009 he has been chairman of the Unterland singing region and looks after 30 choir communities.
