A new lease of life for Cyberpunk 2077. Rarely has the game been talked about as much as in the past few weeks after a catastrophic launch full of bugs and crashes in December 2020. For good reason, the game has finally become what it should have been when it started, thanks to numerous updates, free new features and the launch of the next-gen.
But it was especially last September that business really picked up for the license. Edgerunners, the animated adaptation on Netflix, was a real hit and revived the hype around Cyberpunk in a significant way. Sales have since started to rise again, surpassing the 20 million copies sold mark, and there have rarely been as many simultaneous players as since the release of the series.
Phantom Liberty
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be the first and last expansion of the game, after announcing that their Orion project will be the next game in the Night City universe. It will arrive in 2023, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
Phantom Liberty was announced on September 30 via the trailer above. We can find V and Johnny Silverhand there, and explore a new area located in Pacifica. The main story will revolve around the NUSA (New United States of America). Finally, there will also be a new radio hosted by Sasha Grey, new characters, and much more.
But the information of the day to remember is that this extension will be paid. It was announced Radek Grabowski, public relations director of CD Projekt Red. It would obviously be cheaper than the original game, and the price will be communicated soon. To get an idea, we can remember the same extensions from which The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt benefited: Hearts of Stone (€9.99) and Blood and Wine (€19.99). We therefore imagine a range of prices in these surroundings.
Big ambitions for CD Projekt Red
In addition to the ambitions displayed through Phantom Liberty, the Polish studio has been making press releases in recent days. After the announcement of a brand new license, the Orion project serving as a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, and the multiple projects around The Witcher, CD Projekt Red has announced the release of the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for December 14 — which will be free for game owners.
