While waiting for the release of the expansion Cyberpunk 2077CD Projekt RED notably updated the PC specs on the game’s Steam page.

The Polish studio has thus revised the requirements of its title upwards, at all levels, to accommodate Phantom Liberty next September 26.

New demanding mission orders

While the very greedy Ray Tracing: Overdrive mode specifically aimed at RTX 4000s has settled well on Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED is setting the stage for our next mission to Dogtown as part of the expansion. As a reminder, it will only be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

In this sense, the Polish studio seems to have let go of the graphic side, both of the initial game and of Phantom Liberty. This is evidenced by the raised PC specs, particularly regarding the following minimum system requirements:

Minimum system requirements (without ray tracing)

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit;
  • Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580 or Intel Arc A380;
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-6700 or Ryzen 5 1600;
  • RAM: 12 GB;
  • Storage: 70 GB (SSD required);
  • Target Graphics Preset: Low;
  • Target resolution and FPS (based on internal testing): 1080p at 30 FPS.

We note in particular that an SSD is now required, even to run Cyberpunk 2077 at a minimum union level. Hard drives will therefore no longer be supported correctly. The reason given by CD Projekt RED is that more demanding PC specs will maintain a more stable frame rate, at 30 or 60 FPS and depending on the targeted resolution. For the rest of the PC configurations required without ray tracing, this is what the studio now recommends:

Recommended configuration (without ray tracing)

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit;
  • Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2060 Super or Radeon RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc A770;
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 7800X;
  • RAM: 16 GB;
  • Storage: 70 GB (SSD required);
  • Target Graphics Preset: High;
  • Target resolution and FPS (based on internal testing): 1080p at 60 FPS.

Ultra configuration (without ray tracing)

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit;
  • Graphics card: GeForce RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX;
  • Processor: Intel Core i9-12900 or Ryzen 9 7900X;
  • RAM: 20 GB;
  • Storage: 70 GB (NVMe SSD required);
  • Targeted graphics preset: ultra;
  • Target resolution and FPS (based on internal testing): 2160p at 60 FPS.

Cyberpunk 2077 and ray tracing: a history of cyberpsycho

These configurations are generally much more muscular, and this is of course without counting the famous ray tracing. CD Projekt RED’s recommendations move into a whole different league in this regard, as you can see below:

Minimum system requirements (ray tracing enabled)

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit;
  • Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 6800 XT or Intel Arc A750;
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-9700 or Ryzen 5 5600;
  • RAM: 16 GB;
  • Storage: 70 GB (SSD required);
  • Targeted graphics preset: low ray tracing;
  • Target resolution and FPS (based on internal testing): 1080p at 30 FPS.

Recommended configuration (ray tracing enabled)

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit;
  • Graphics card: GeForce RTX 3080 Ti or Radeon RX 7900 XTX;
  • Processor: Intel Core i9-12900 or Ryzen 9 7900X;
  • RAM: 20 GB;
  • Storage: 70 GB (NVMe SSD required);
  • Targeted graphics preset: ray tracing ultra;
  • Target resolution and FPS (based on internal testing): 1080p at 60 FPS.

Ray Tracing Setup: Overdrive

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit;
  • Graphics card: GeForce RTX 4080;
  • Processor: Intel Core i9-12900 or Ryzen 9 7900X;
  • RAM: 24 GB;

So, do you have enough cyberpsycho CP to find V and Johnny Silverhand in Night City on September 26th?
