Cyberpunk 2077: PS4 and Xbox One are finally looking into the tube

Cyberpunk 2077 gets its first expansion. However, this only appears for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Owners of the last-gen consoles are left in the dark.

Not for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: Cyberpunk 2077 expansion not for everyone

With Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red now announces the upcoming expansion for the game. However, this one will appear only for the PS5, the Xbox Series X|S and the PC. The reason for this would be problems on the part of the studio optimizing the DLC for the older consoles. Even the base game doesn’t run smoothly despite numerous updates – so the decision to leave out the old consoles entirely is probably sensible to avoid trouble.

Thanks to a major update for the current generation in February 2022, improvements can be felt at least on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, including a better performance mode that enables constant 60 FPS with dynamic 4K scaling.

CD Projekt Red announced the upcoming expansion with an official teaser video. This features a whole new cast of characters and fans can look forward to too a reunion with Keanu Reeves looking forward to reprising his role as Johnny Silverhand. In addition, a brand new place in the world should be available for you to discover.

An exact release date is not yet known. Phantom Liberty is scheduled for release in 2023.

Phantom Liberty is said to be the first and last expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 be – the studio confirmed on Reddit: “I love this game so much. I’m glad it continues to be supported. I hope this isn’t the only expansion,” wrote Reddit user SageWaterDragon.

However, he received an answer from CDPR that probably did not please him: “Thanks for the kind words! Phantom Liberty is the only planned extension for Cyberpunk 2077,” according to the studio (source: Reddit).
