CD Projekt RED and NVIDIA took advantage of GDC 2023 to announce the next update of Cyberpunk 2077.

Patch 1.62 will be deployed on April 11 and will focus in part on the famous Ray Tracing Overdrive mode, which will integrate the famous RTX Path Tracing technology… intended a priori only to RTX 4000 graphics cards.

Cyberpunk 2077 make his way

Currently deployed on titles like Portal RTX Or Quake RTXthe new fashionable technology at NVIDIA will therefore make its appearance on the technical showcase that is Cyberpunk 2077.

RTX Path Tracing aims to take shadows, indirect lighting and reflections to the next level while ignoring the technical limitations imposed by ambient occlusion or space reflection. NVIDIA thus claims to offer a technology with impressive visual contributions offering greater freedom to developers.

With Ray Tracing Overdrive mode, each light source will produce its own shadows and highlights. Indirect lighting and reflections will bounce multiple times instead of once, for a more realistic result, all rendered in maximum resolution.

A mode reserved for the Major League

However, this novelty should, until proven otherwise, only concern the 4000 generation of NVIDIA graphics cards. Otherwise (and this would be very surprising), such a mode risks requiring a real machine of the future to run smoothly.

This is another element in favor of the RTX 4000s, which are the only ones to take full advantage of DLSS 3 technology to compensate for such an impact on performance, without unduly reducing visual quality. To the chagrin of about 99% of PC players, unfortunately…

In addition to this mode reserved for the elite, patch 1.62 should still bring several changes accessible to ordinary mortals. CD Projekt RED has indeed indicated that it wants to improve the behavior of police forces or vehicle combat in particular, which should happen with the upcoming major patch 1.7. The Polish studio should, as usual, soon split an announcement in good and due form devoted to what awaits us over the following weeks in Night City.

Finally, remember that Cyberpunk 2077 will welcome later this year its one and only expansion called Phantom Libertycoming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, in which V will work for what remains of the United States government to expose a vast conspiracy within Night City.
