“Cyclodome 2024” – cycling gets up close and personal with the festival

Cycling is set to cast its spell over Salzburg’s old town again this year. The pedal knights are in charge for three days in a row shortly after the end of the festival. The “Cyclodome” event is coming up with big innovations and, like in 2023, is hoping for big names.

In addition to the Tour of Austria, which takes place in St. Johann and the surrounding area at the beginning of July, cycling is also taking place in Salzburg in September. On three days (September 5th, 6th and 7th) the pedal knights are in charge in the old town – with the racing bike criterion, the mountain bike eliminator (both “Cyclodome”) and the city hill climb to the fortress. The latter competition is organized by Styrian Gerhard Schönbacher. The eyes are primarily focused on the old town criterion. This attracted hundreds of cycling fans when they returned. Also because Felix Gall was the hottest local player. The organizers want to get the Tyrolean back on board in 2024. “We are in discussions with him,” emphasizes racing bike boss Christian Mohr. At this point in time, however, it is difficult to register fixed participants. That depends above all on how the season progresses. The route is up to 65 km/h. The start and finish are at Residenzplatz. The Franziskanergasse takes you past the concert halls in Hofstallgasse just a few days after the end of the festival. The way back leads over Universitätsplatz and under the Ritzerbogen. Up to 65 kilometers per hour should be possible here. “This will make the race even more spectacular and interesting,” says organization manager Christian Morgner. The budget for the “Cyclodome” is around 200,000 euros. The city and the state provide 40,000 each.
