Cyclone Freddy death toll rises to 190 in Malawi

BLANTYRE, Malawi (Reuters) – The death toll from Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Malawi has risen from 99 to 190, the country’s disaster management agency said on Tuesday.
Freddy, one of the strongest cyclones on record in the southern hemisphere, has killed dozens of people, wreaking havoc in Malawi and Mozambique after making landfall for the second time over the weekend.

As torrential rains continued to batter Malawi on Tuesday, 584 people were injured and 37 are still missing, the country’s disaster management affairs department said in a statement.
