Cynthia Nixon on filming without Kim Cattrall
The “egg dance” was over
Kim Cattrall will be seen in “And Just Like That…” soon. But she didn’t film with the other stars. No problem for Cynthia Nixon.
Cynthia Nixon (57) revealed what it was like to shoot the “Sex and the City” spin-off “And Just Like That…” without Kim Cattrall (66). Together with Sarah Jessica Parker (58) and Kristin Davis (58), the two actresses stood in front of the camera for six seasons for “Sex and the City” and two films.
After not appearing in season one of And Just Like That…, Cattrall was recently revealed to have reprized her role as Samantha Jones for a cameo in the season two finale, without having contact with the other stars during production. Nixon told “Vanity Fair”that she had read the script of Cattrall Returns but hadn’t seen the episode. She also explained how she experienced the first season without Samantha.
“No egg dance” anymore
“It felt very different because we have these new amazing characters, we’re older and our fictional kids are pretty much grown now,” said the Miranda Hobbes actress. “A lot of things felt different. But the main thing that felt so great was that everyone who was there really wanted to be there. That’s the bottom line.”
Cynthia Nixon continued, “We all love each other, we love our show, we wanted to do more of it. And we all wanted to be in it.” It makes a huge difference, the actress said, in not having to “do an egg dance” around a person who is unhappy “for reasons that are difficult to understand.”
Kim Cattrall wasn’t asked at first
In the past, a possible third “Sex and the City” film had failed. At the time, there were rumors that Cattrall had allegedly made demands that the film studio didn’t agree with. Later, when plans for the spin-off And Just Like That… were pitched to Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, the actresses decided they could move on without Samantha because they knew what showrunner Michael Patrick was doing King (68) planned and it was very well received, Parker explained in June 2022 to “The Hollywood Reporter”. She also revealed they didn’t reach out to Cattrall. “She made it clear that she didn’t want to pursue this any further,” Parker said.
In Germany, the new season of “And Just Like That…” can be seen on Sky and the Wow streaming service from June 22nd. The other episodes always appear on Thursdays. In the US, the second season will be shown on the Max streaming service.
