Dacia confirms the affordable electric Sandero which will see the light of day thanks to the Renault 5 E-Tech

Dacia has confirmed the arrival of a 100% electric version of the Sandero. But be patient, we will still have to wait for the next generation of the model which will not arrive before 2027 or 2028.

We’ve heard a lot about the Dacia Spring lately. It must be said that in the middle of a 2024 Geneva Motor Show that was reduced to say the least, the new generation of the small electric city car looked good, not far from the electric Renault 5. A new Spring, which we have already been able to approach, and which pushes the current generation towards the exit.

But if the Spring is currently the only electric car from the Romanian brand, it will soon be joined by the best seller of the brand: the Sandero. The one that was the second best-selling car in Europe in 2023, just behind the hold-up Tesla Model Y, will soon be entitled to a zero-emission version (at the exhaust at least). But not in its current generation, which appeared in 2020. In its next and fourth version.

A little something from Renault 5

This revelation was made by Denis Le Vot, the CEO of the brand, to our colleagues atAutomotive News, in the aisles of the Geneva show. The manager also confirmed what he had already said: the future Sandero will indeed be offered in a thermal version, alongside a 100% electric option.

But be patient, because it will not see the light of day for a few years: 2027, or even 2028 as he also specified, for a lifespan which will take it until 2035, the famous ultimatum beyond which car manufacturers will not be able to no longer sell new combustion cars in Europe.

We also learn something interesting about synergies with Renault since this future electric Dacia Sandero could have a little something… of the Renault 5! Without knowing exactly what it would be, we can already imagine that it is a version of the AmpR Small platform, which will also be on the next Renault 4.

As a reminder, the AmpR Small was previously called CMF-B EV, which was derived from the CMF-B for thermal cars. A platform on which rests… the current Dacia Sandero. The circle is complete !

What to expect from the future Sandero?

As a reminder, Denis Le Vot had already mentioned a future electric Sandero a few months ago. And in his interview, he himself specified that autonomy and charging speed would probably have nothing to do with the competition. This will also reduce costs and allow low prices, which is above all Dacia’s ambition.

The production location of the future Sandero, like that of the Jogger, should soon move to Morocco. While Dacia’s main plant in Romania, in Pitesti, will focus on the new Duster and its big brother, the Bigster. They too will have to wait for the next generation to taste the joys of 100% electric.
