Since the release of “Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” on Netflix, the city of Milwaukee has returned to the heart of the news. The success of the series could even shake things up.
Dahmer: Monster – The story of Jeffrey Dahmer returns, more than 30 years after the fact, to the murders committed by one of the most notorious criminals in the United States. From 1978 to 1991, 17 men were killed and dismembered in his apartment.
The 10-episode mini-series revives the wounds of the families of the victims, but also those of the inhabitants of Milwaukee, the city of the tragedy. The success of the program attracts new curious people to the horizons. It is in any case what noticed the neighbors who live near the former building of Jeffrey Dahmer – today demolished.
The local news channel, FOX6 News, even interviewed some locals, like Ray Monchamp who lives near the premises. He explains that more and more tourists ask him where Jeffrey Dahmer lived, before taking photos.
A MEMORIAL SOON TO BE BUILT?
Despite herself, the city of Milwaukee – classified as one of the most dangerous in the United States – is once again becoming a morbid attraction for a public eager for thrills. Nevertheless, the series of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan does not bring only negative.
The town hall receives more and more calls to create a memorial in tribute to the 17 murdered men. One of the spokespersons nevertheless points out that these requests come from fans of the series and not from the families of the victims.

In episode 10, neighbor Glenda Jackson – played by Niecy Nash – tries to fight to install a stele. This project will never see the light of day. Today, discussions on the subject resume.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson says to himself “open” at the idea, but fears the consequences: “I am cautious with the idea of installing a physical memorial. This could attract characters who have a morbid fascination with the killer. I would like to avoid that.”
MILWAUKEE POLICE REACT
Another consequence also, the judgments made against the Milwaukee police. The series rightly paints an unflattering portrait of officers who failed to act in time. The departmental police shared a press release to reassure the public of their “progress”:
“The officers who were involved in the tragic Sinthasomphone case more than 30 years ago were fired by the then chief of police. Nevertheless, a judge overturned their dismissal. Milwaukee Police is committed to working with our community to help build neighborhoods that are crime-free and built on good human relations.”
