Daily: who is Jules Grandin, the new columnist?

The Quotidien team has grown. In view of the 2022 presidential election, Yann Barthès has hired a recruit of choice: a cartographer. But who is Jules Grandin, the new columnist?

In Daily, every day the presidential election of 2022 has its place. And to also deal with it in an original and in-depth way, Yann Barthès and his team have found a quality recruit, who appeared for the first time this Thursday, January 13: Jules Grandin. But who is the new columnist from the hit TMC show? He is a print journalist who has gained a bit of notoriety on Twitter thanks to his skills as a cartographer. Every Thursday, he will thus present on the set of Day-to-day its new section. The idea is to map the presidential election.

Until now unknown to the audiovisual landscape, Jules Grandin is currently working at Les Echos, where he is responsible for the cartography department. “I produce maps and graphs, which are brought to appear in the newspapers“, he explained. A cartographer by training, the new face of Day-to-day admits to particularly enjoying mapping things that aren’t usually mapped. He thus produced an astonishing map of Macronie. For his baptism in the program produced by Bangumi, he chose to analyze the birthplaces of all French leaders.

On social networks, the teacher seduces

The challenge ? Remember that geography is above all an adventurer’s thing and that it is anything but boring. Already on Twitter, Jules Gradin stood out and created his community over time. What we find on his account: threads on little-known parts of the world or even think maps, who have found their audience. With its 28K subscribers, the new recruit of Daily marvels at the many finds of the latter. Among them in particular, a pebble which formed a map of Africa, as spotted by our colleagues from binge. Graduated with a Master’s degree in cartography from La Sorbonne, Jules Gradin has a nice CV with a passage to the newspaper Le Monde. And he became a teacher in 2015 at the Sciences Po journalism school. We also owe this enthusiast the book The Moliere Atlas, in which he maps the work of the famous playwright.
