Daimler: For safer automated driving

(CercleFinance.com) – Drive Pilot is the first internationally certified Level 3 system.

Designed by Mercedes-Benz, Drive Pilot is based on a system architecture that makes it possible to safely control all situations that may arise.

To this end, braking, steering, power supply and parts of the sensor system are designed with physical and functional redundancy. By taking this safety-focused approach to system design, Mercedes-Benz is setting completely new benchmarks in automated driving.

Drive Pilot has been available as an option for the S-Class and EQS in Germany since May 17, 2022.

The four central elements of the redundant architecture include the braking system, the steering, the power supply and part of the sensors. These include environmental recognition and manipulation.

A total of more than 30 sensors allow the Drive Pilot to reliably master the ride.

“We are convinced that redundancy is the right approach for Level 3 automated driving and beyond,” says Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group, Chief Technology Officer, Head of Development and purchases.
