The heavy goods vehicle manufacturer says it plans to place highly automated vehicles on the American market, that is to say within the meaning of level 4 of the SAE standard, the standard for classifying the degree of automation of driving, within a short time. of three years.

The German group explains that its technological partner, Torc, has already carried out tests in real logistics conditions with its Freightliner Cascadia, a large aircraft, on a route linking Phoenix to Oklahoma City.

If Daimler emphasizes that its autonomous technology is intended to equip the electric version of its truck, the Freightliner eCascadia, it specifies that the first autonomous trucks to circulate on American roads will be equipped with thermal engines.

By 2030, the group indicates that it hopes to generate revenues of around three billion euros and operational results (Ebit) of at least one billion euros per year thanks to its activities in autonomous driving. .
