Danger! A big cat escaped in Berlin

In the capital Berlin is running a big wild animal search. The reason: a big cat escaped. To be more precise, on the outskirts of Berlin in Kleinmachnow, southwest of Berlin. Since midnight, thermal imaging cameras, helicopters, many police officers and even together with veterinarians and hunters have been looking for the dangerous predator.

An escaped lioness is wanted

A police spokesman confirmed that the wild animal was “most likely” a lioness Berlin newspaper. Also on the official website Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BKK) it says: “The wild animal should probably be a lioness.” According to the police in Brandenburg an der Havel, the species of the animal has not yet been officially confirmed.

Since early Thursday morning, residents in Kleinmachnow, Stahnsdorf and Teltow have been asked to submit their no longer leave houses and apartments. In addition, the Berlin police now also known on Twitter that the warning area has now been “extended to the south of Berlin”.

It is actually still unclear whether the wildcat in Berlin or Brandenburg emotional. A search is therefore also being made in Berlin.

Recommendations for action for residents

On the website of the Federal Office for Civil Protection, the Regional control center Brandenburg an der Havel a warning for the region Kleinmachnow, Teltow and Stahnsdorf. The population was warned with warning apps and loudspeakers were also used. Mayor Michael Grubert told T-Online: “One should definitely not go into the open country or into the forest.” There was also a call to bring pets into the house.

The following is advised to residents:

  • Avoid the affected area.
  • Drive around the affected area as far as possible.
  • Find out in the media, for example on local radio.
  • Follow the instructions of the emergency services.
  • Only dial 110 (police) and 112 (fire brigade) in emergencies.
  • Do not let pets or livestock outside.
  • Do not leave the apartment and pay attention to announcements by the emergency services.
  • Bring pets into the house/apartment.

The wild animal search and warning were extended to the south of Berlin

The Berlin fire brigade has also issued a hazard information. There is a warning in this area east of the A115/Avus via Zehlendorf, Steglitz, Tempelhof in the north, Marienfelde in the south until after Buckow and Rudow in Neukoelln.

Where the wildcat is supposed to come from and who or where it escaped from is still completely unclear. The big cat was filmed by witnesses during the night. Citizens in the towns of Kleinmachnow, Teltow and Stahnsdorf in Brandenburg reported seeing a lion. The police found out about the wildcat through witnesses. They recorded videos of the big cat chasing and killing a wild boar.
