Danger for cell phones from Samsung and Co.: If this 0151 number calls, it can be expensive

When an unknown number appears on the display of your Samsung or non-Samsung cell phone, the reactions are always different. Some people pick up the phone without further ado, people who don’t like telephones hope that it will stop ringing as quickly as possible and others simply won’t answer the phone if they don’t know the number. We’ll show you which number the latter method is currently proving to be the right approach.

The number hides a dangerous spam call. Fraudsters want to use this to lure you into a trap and thus gain access to your personal data. In the worst case scenario, you could even lose money.

Fake competition

Callers have different approaches. However, at its core it is always about a supposed profit.

One method uses a computer-generated announcement. This welcomes you and claims that your participation in the last competition was successful and that you have won the main prize. There is talk of sums of up to 1,700 euros. In most cases you will be asked to press button 1 on your mobile phone to accept the prize.

You will then be connected to a call center. The caller imposes costs or a subscription on you and demands that you reveal your personal information. This is necessary in order to receive your winnings.

It also happens that fraudsters claim that you have taken out a competition subscription (for example from Lotto) that has been extended by 12 months. The only way to get out of the subscription is to pay the first three monthly installments immediately.

The fraudsters use this scam to specifically put you under pressure and hope that you will pay the money they ask for without thinking about it. In such situations, always keep a cool head and do not follow the demands blindly.

This is how you protect yourself

The tellows portal classifies the numbers 0151170294731 as a major threat. Don’t get involved in the conversation and don’t reveal any sensitive data.

In general, as soon as you hear an automatic announcement on the phone, you can hang up straight away. No reputable company would call you with a recorded message. Telephone competitions are also a direct indication of attempted fraud. No matter how high the profit supposedly is, don’t take up the offer.

By the way, you shouldn’t answer such calls. Even a simple “yes” from you can have devastating consequences. The callers could secretly record the conversation and use your words against you. With a “yes” they could, for example, foist the confirmation of a contract on you. The best way to protect yourself is to hang up.
