Can it be that easy? An alleged competition on Facebook promises a compact way to win: a “shopping voucher worth €250-500” from IKEA beckons people who “guess a number other than (555) correctly” on a Sharepic. Caution: The offer is not serious and does not come from IKEA itself.
Even the name of the Facebook page is suspicious: “IKEA- Germany.” The hyphen is followed by a space and the name ends with a period. Does such a professional company appear?
The Facebook page with the alleged competition has only existed since June 2, 2022. It is not clear who set it up. According to the law, commercially used pages must have an imprint that contains, among other things, a postal address and contact options. However, there is no imprint on the Facebook page from which the competition originated.
Alleged IKEA competition to collect user data
The official Facebook pages of companies can often be recognized by the verification badge, i.e. a small white check mark on a blue background. This mark means that the company’s page has been checked by Facebook and recognized as genuine. That’s not the case with the supposed Ikea page where the post appeared.
The official page of Ikea Germany on Facebook was created a good ten years ago, contains a complete imprint and has around 31 million followers in June 2022. The page with the alleged sweepstakes, on the other hand, only has 13 subscribers, and there is nothing there apart from the 555 puzzle. This also shows that this offer is dubious.
Consumer advocates and the police warn again and again against passing on your own e-mail address or other personal data in dubious sweepstakes offers, also because this data can be sold.
