Hofreiter calls AfD “troop of traitors”

While the AfD prefers to act close to the people, Anton Hofreiter points out the close ties of some party cadres to Russia and China. That is treason, argues the Green politician and even thinks a ban is promising.
The chairman of the Europe Committee in the Bundestag, Anton Hofreiter, has accused the AfD of treason and does not rule out a ban on the party. “You have to be aware of the incredible danger that the AfD poses to democracy and the rule of law as well as the prosperity of many people; that has not yet reached all parts of society,” said Green politicians to the editorial network Germany (RND).
“There is also insufficient awareness of the danger that the AfD poses to our country’s external security in this difficult situation with increasingly aggressive dictatorships such as Russia and China. but act in the interests of opposing powers,” Hofreiter told RND.
Hofreiter pleads for hardness
You can see that especially in relation to Russia. The AfD spreads Russian state propaganda, hate speech against the free press and undermines fact-based discourse. The party is helping Russia and parts of China with this. “A prominent example of this is the so-called top candidate of the AfD for the European elections, Maximilian Krah, who is close to Russia, close to China and has ties to the Chinese tech group Huawei,” said the Green politician. “Another example is Björn Höcke, who, according to the court decision, can rightly be called a Nazi because he is simply a neo-Nazi.”
Hofreiter warned: “The state must act tougher.” This applies above all to criminal offenses in social networks and the dissemination of anti-democratic propaganda there. “We must not neglect the repressive side.” In this context, he emphasized: “One must not rule out a ban on the AfD under any circumstances. Because one must not forget one thing: the Federal Constitutional Court only did not agree to a ban on the NPD because the party ultimately considered it irrelevant. That can be done unfortunately not saying anything about the AfD at the moment.”
