Dangerous fire – tenant (65) only dead from 9th floor recovered

Fire broke out from a residential tower in the city center of Enns. Nine fire brigades fought the flames on the ninth floor with a total of 94 emergency services.

At 2:13 p.m., the emergency services were alerted on Wednesday – the situation was explosive. Flames broke out in a ten-storey residential tower on Gruberstrasse in the city center of Enns. The result: a large-scale operation with alert level 2. A total of nine fire brigades (94 men and women) were called to the scene of the fire. “When we arrived, the flames erupted from the 9th floor. They threatened to spread to the floor above,” says operations manager Alfred Stummer from the Enns fire department. There was thick smoke coming from an apartment. “The front door was locked. We broke them open and were then able to start the interior attack,” explains the commander. Attempts were also made to contain the fire from outside. All the windows in the apartment were broken. The fire threatened to spread through the facade to the apartment above. No help possible. The emergency services first fought their way into the bedroom, where they only found the 65-year-old tenant dead. Stummer: “Unfortunately, there was no more help for him, we then concentrated completely on ensuring that the apartment above is spared.” That finally succeeded: the flames could be extinguished with combined forces. Possible cause of fire: The tenant may have fallen asleep with a cigarette.
