Dangerous situation – fire on farm: 16 cows and 2 calves rescued

A Tyrolean farmer in Kössen narrowly missed out on a catastrophe on Thursday afternoon. A fire had broken out in his barn, which was full of hay. Worse events were prevented by the rapid intervention of numerous fire brigades and the courageous action of the farmer.

The alarm was sounded just after 2 p.m. When emergency services arrived, heavy smoke was pouring out of the barn where the fresh hay was stored. There wasn’t a second to lose. Firefighters managed to get the heated hay out before larger flames started. The fire was quickly contained as a result. While the Floriani disciples secured the barn, the farmer rushed into the barn in the same building and brought his 16 cows and two calves to safety. In this way, farmers and fire brigades joined forces to prevent worse things from happening. 140 emergency services were on site, hay was probably the cause of the fire. The Kössen, Schwendt, Walchsee, St. Johann and Buchberg fire brigades were deployed with around 135 emergency services, the Kössen rescue service with three emergency services and three police patrols. The extent of the property damage cannot be quantified at this time. According to the investigations so far, the fire may have broken out in the barn, in the area where the hay was stored. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing.
