According to Deadline, Daniel Craig has signed on for the lead role in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film, Queer, a film adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ 1985 novel of the same name.

Although the film does not yet have a studio or distributor, Luca Guadagnino is in the process of raising funds and has already started talking to potential financiers. Further details of the project are still being kept under wraps.

In Queer, William Lee recounts his life in Mexico City among expatriate American students and bar owners. He survives there thanks to part-time jobs and social benefits. Lee is self-conscious and insecure but determined to pursue a young man named Allerton.

The book’s main character is based on William S. Burroughs himself, while Allerton’s is based on Adelbert Lewis Marker (1930-1998), a demobilized United States Navy serviceman from Jacksonville, Florida, who s was at the time befriended the author in Mexico City. Queerwhich was written between 1951 and 1953 and published in 1985, is the sequel to Burroughs’ 1953 debut novel titled Junkie.

Known for developing several projects at the same time, Luca Guadagnino is also working on a biopic of Audrey Hepburn with Rooney Mara. However, the Apple project is still looking for a screenwriter. The filmmaker has also just presented his romantic horror drama Bones and All, released on November 23, which reunited him with the young star of his legendary Call Me By Your Name, Timothée Chalamet.

As for Daniel Craig, you will very soon be able to find him on your (small) screens. Indeed, after saying goodbye to the 007 franchise in Dying can wait in October 2021, the actor resumed his role as detective Benoît Blanc in Glass Onion: a story at loggerheads, still signed Rian Johnson.

The sequel to Knives Out, which already enjoyed tremendous box office success during its exclusive 5-day release in US theaters, will be released worldwide on Netflix on December 23. In the meantime, the first opus is to be reviewed on the same platform.
