Daniel Radcliffe made a sweet declaration of love to his girlfriend when he won the first Tony Award of his career.

Daniel Radcliffe (34) won his first Tony Award on June 16 in New York. He was honored as best supporting actor in a musical. Radcliffe plays lyricist Charley Kringas in “Merrily We Roll Along” on Broadway. In his speech, he thanked his long-time girlfriend Erin Darke (39).

The couple has a one-year-old son

The former “Harry Potter” actor made his Broadway debut in 2008. Now he can look forward to the “Theater Oscar”. He was one of the evening’s winners at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City. When he accepted his award, the Brit thanked his partner Erin Darke and declared his love to her on stage. The actress could be seen with tears in her eyes. The couple met on film and have been together since 2012.

Radcliffe also mentioned their son, who was born in April 2023. Looking ahead to American Father’s Day, he began by saying, “My mom and dad are here somewhere – happy Father’s Day, dad, I love you both so much. Thank you for playing Sondheim in the car and just loving me so much.” He then emphasized, “And my dear Erin – you and our son are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you so much, thank you so much. Thank you all so much.”

Since his Broadway debut in 2008 with “Equus,” Radcliffe has appeared in productions of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” “The Cripple of Inishmaan,” “The Lifespan of a Fact,” and “Merrily We Roll Along.” The latter play has been a huge success: Radcliffe received two Broadway Audience Choice Awards earlier this year for his role in “Merrily We Roll Along,” winning the categories “Favorite Supporting Actor in a Musical” and “Favorite Stage Couple.”

Radcliffe and his castmates, including Best Actor winner Jonathan Groff (39) and Lindsay Mendez (41), will close their final show for “Merrily We Roll Along” on July 7 after performing together on Broadway since October 2023. “Thank you to our cast, to everyone on stage. It’s an honor to be on stage with you every night. I’m going to miss it so much,” Radcliffe said before addressing his co-stars directly. “Speaking of missing things, Jonathan, Lindsay: I’m going to miss you so much. I don’t actually have to act in this show, I just have to look at you and feel everything I want to feel. I’ll never feel this good again.”

Further awards 2024

In addition to Radcliffe and his colleague Groff, these productions and stars were also able to celebrate an award: “The Outsiders”, whose producers include Angelina Jolie (49), won the award for best musical. Jack O’Brien (84) and George C. Wolfe (69) both received the Special Tony Award 2024 for their lifetime achievement in the theater. In addition, Billy Porter (54) was honored with the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award 2024 for his commitment and contributions as an activist and spokesperson for the LGBTQ+ communities. Best Leading Actress in a Musical is
Maleah Joi Moon (21, Hell’s Kitchen), best supporting actress Kecia Lewis (Hell’s Kitchen). Jeremy Strong (45) was awarded best actor in a play for his role in “An Enemy of the People”, and Sarah Paulson (49) was awarded best actress in “Appropiate”.

The Tony Awards have been awarded since 1947. They are considered the most important prizes in the musical and theater sector and are comparable to the other major US awards: the Oscars for films, the Grammy Awards for music and the Emmy for television. All plays and musicals that have been performed at a Broadway theater during the year can be nominated for the award named after Antoinette Perry.
