Dark Envoy: We’ve seen it, what you need to know about Event Horizon’s strategy RPG

Dark Envoy it’s a title that, before Gamescom, hasn’t really been talked about a lot. And yet it’s a shame, the software offering us a clever mix of RPG, hack’n’slash and tactics. We just got to see it for half an hour, and here’s what you need to know about the studio’s latest production Event Horizon.

Malakai and Kaela, brother and sister in the hostile lands of Jäan

First of all, you should know that Dark Envoy will allow us to embody Malakai or Kaela, respectively brother and sister. In particular, we were able to see that it will be possible, before starting the game, to customize our protagonists as we see fit. The opportunity to choose our attributes, such as our class, between adept, warrior or even ranger.

In other words, the developers want to leave a certain freedom to the players to modulate their character in their own image, in terms of their skills, as well as their class. In addition to this very nice and deep customizable aspect, know that Dark Envoy will also be playable in cooperation with up to four players. In short, it will be possible to finish the game solo or with other players online.

For the time being, we have not yet seen if the result is successful but, let it be said, The game can be played solo or in co-op. For the narration, we know that we will follow the journey of Makalai and Karla in the lands of Jäan, where a conflict is raging. Concretely, our heroes will have to face many dangers. We’ll definitely know more about the story once we can play it, meaning when it comes out next year.

A fairly classic approach to gameplay with small subtleties

A bit like all titles oriented RPG, strategy or even hack’n’slash, Dark Envoy will also give you the ability to recover various equipment and resell them in a village. This will incidentally allow you to buy new equipment and to be more powerful. Of course, our protagonists will have a skill tree, which will allow them to acquire passive or active skills. In other words, we will find a fairly basic game system, although it is nonetheless extremely flexible.

Dark Envoy, it will also be dungeons to explore. And in this hack’n’slash/action oriented gameplay, you can also slow down time via a tactical mode. This feature will give you the possibility plan your attacks and dodge those of your opponents. Here, the placement of your protagonist and your units will be important, as the software can be quite punitive. This offers a rather pleasant but demanding gameplay, and halfway between Diablo, Iron Danger even XCOM.

The mix is quite pleasant so far. Note that the title should take between 3 and 6 p.m. rushing, or 8/25 p.m. for 100%. Of course, be aware that you will have skills to cast on enemies as well as bosses. Finally, it is good to know that the schematic progression will roughly consist of going to the village, selling your equipment, activating your quests and going to the dungeons. We are waiting to see the content of the gameplay over the length, hoping that the experience will be sufficiently varied after several hours.

Dark Envoyas pleasant as it is in its approach, still has things to prove between now and its planned release. for 2023 on PC for now. PS4 and Xbox One versions should follow laterbut the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions were not mentioned, which is surprising.
