Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin asked Friday the autonomist president of the Executive Council of Corsica Gilles Simeoni to make proposals to him to “strengthen” the economy of the island, during the opening in Paris of a cycle of discussions about the future of the community.

This meeting was the first meeting in a cycle of consultations that should last a year between the government and local elected officials on the economic, social and institutional future of the island.
Gilles Simeoni also congratulated himself on an extremely productive day. The discussion is not closed, it will continue, but the milestones are in place, added the elected official.
Mr. Simeoni explained that he had asked the Minister to immediately send concrete signs on four categories of problems: the price of fuel, purchasing power, the tax credit, particularly in the area of hotels, and the social question.

The Minister of the Interior said Friday that he would go to Corsica on October 6 and 7, with the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion Christophe Bchu, to talk in particular about the subject of energy and waste. .
This summer, Mr. Darmanin argued that there would be no taboos during these consultations, particularly on a move towards autonomy, while setting two red lines: a Corsica that remains in the Republic and not to create two types of citizens on the island.
The second meeting will be dedicated to financial speculation, town planning and housing and the third, scheduled before the end of 2022, to Corsican language and culture.
