Darmstadt moves up to the top
For Schalke it ends scary in the thick fog

FC Schalke 04 wins four times in a row in the 2nd Bundesliga in a row and climbs onto a promotion spot. On the 12th matchday, however, the series breaks: Shortly before the end, the end comes with horror. Darmstadt 98 meanwhile brings the chasing field closer together.

1. FC Heidenheim – FC Schalke 04 1: 0 (0: 0)

Three days after the cup at third division 1860 Munich, the successful streak of FC Schalke 04 also came to an end in the 2nd Bundesliga. After four consecutive wins without conceding a goal, the Bundesliga relegated player at 1. FC Heidenheim conceded a goal from Oliver Hüsing (89th) shortly before the end and lost 1-0 (0-0) at the start of the 12th matchday in a weak game. In front of 10,000 spectators, Schalke missed the jump to second place and remain third in the table. Heidenheim, on the other hand, ended a negative series with three defeats in a row and initially moved up to eighth place in the table.

With the guests, captain and midfielder Danny Latza celebrated his starting line-up comeback after months of injury. Both teams showed more fighting than playing class in heavy fog. The guests were lucky when Heidenheim’s Tobias Mohr put a long-range shot on the lower edge of the crossbar (17th minute). On the other hand, Schalke’s Victor Palsson missed the lead for the guests with two headers (22nd, 27th). The game remained intense after the break, but there were still no ideas ahead. Schalke striker Simon Terodde headed just past from close range (74th). Then it was Hüsing who, in the final phase, scored the decision in favor of the FCH with a header.

SV Darmstadt 98 – 1. FC Nürnberg 2: 0 (1: 0)

The strong home SV Darmstadt 98 inflicted the first defeat of the season for 1. FC Nürnberg. The so far unbeaten francs lost in front of 13,000 spectators at the Böllenfalltor with 0: 2 (0: 1). The hosts celebrated the fifth home win in a row after goals from striker Luca Pfeiffer (11th minute) and Nuremberg defender Christopher Schindler, who unluckily extended a corner with his head into his own housing (58th). With 20 points, Darmstadt moved up to one point in the table against the Nuremberg team.

Three days after the cup was knocked out on penalties, the defeat of the Franks only became a strength problem in the course of the game. Above all, however, the Darmstadt tactics worked very well. The lilies usually left the ball to the guests. However, the “club” did not develop enough power from possession. After the first chances for Darmstadt’s Philipp Tietz (2nd) and FCN attacker Manuel Schäffler (8th), an attack on the right wing ended with Pfeiffer’s ninth goal of the season. Schäffler and Nikola Dovedan could not punish a mistake by 98 goalkeeper Marcel Schuhe with a 1: 1 double chance (43.).

After the 0: 2 the “club” could not mobilize enough energy. The belief in a turnaround waned with all efforts. The Darmstadt team earned the victory with a lot of running effort and greater effectiveness in front of the opposing goal.
