Darmstadt stumbles against Hansa
Embarrassing home bankruptcy for FC St. Pauli

FC St. Pauli clearly goes down against Hannover 96 with 0:3. The Kiezkicker missed a penalty twice, lost their first home game and gambled away their good starting position in the promotion race. Darmstadt also stumbles. This is good news for Hamburg, Schalke and Bremen.

FC St. Pauli – Hannover 96 0: 3 (0: 1)

After Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV, FC St. Pauli also failed in the fight for promotion to the Bundesliga. Coach Timo Schultz’ team deservedly lost 0:3 (0:1) against feared opponents Hannover 96 after a shaky performance and lost the lead in the table. Curious: St. Pauli missed “two” penalties.

Dominik Kaiser (40th), Sebastian Kerk (57th) and Sebastian Stolze (72nd) scored for the guests in Hamburg’s bad weather, the Kiezkicker lost for the first time this season at the Millerntor – and after 28 years they are still waiting for a win at home against 96. St. Pauli seemed strangely inhibited in front of the admitted 10,000 spectators and had little power in the game going forward. Completely different in Hanover: Christoph Dabrowski’s team was well organized and determined.

The Hamburgers were lucky that Cedric Teuchert (44th) and the strong Kerk (38th and 48th) could not use good chances for Hanover. To make matters worse, only Guido Burgstaller (79th) missed the opportunity to score from the point. The penalty kick had to be repeated, but Daniel Kyereh only hit the bar (81st). The only good thing on the match day from St. Pauli’s point of view: The promotion rivals from Bremen (1-1 against FC Ingolstadt) and from city rivals HSV (1-1 at SV Sandhausen) only got one point.

Fortuna Dusseldorf – Ore Mountains Aue 3: 1 (1: 0)

Second game, second win: Under the new coach Daniel Thioune, Fortuna Düsseldorf left the relegation place in the 2nd Bundesliga in a short time. The Rhinelanders defeated bottom of the Erzgebirge Aue 3: 1 (1: 0) and can breathe a sigh of relief. Goalscorer Rouwen Hennings (5th, 90th) and Daniel Ginczek (51st, penalty kick) scored for Düsseldorf. Aue has now been waiting for a win for nine games and is staggering more and more towards the 3rd division, and Prince Owusu’s goal (77th) didn’t change that.

The hosts used the momentum from the win against Schalke 04 (2:1). After a cross from Khaled Narey, Hennings headed in to take the lead. Even then, the former Bundesliga club stayed on the trigger. But Narey (7th) and Ginczek (8th) forgave. Aue usually just ran behind and was able to thank goalkeeper Martin Männel for only going into the break with a goal behind. Männel made a strong save on headers from Christoph Klarer (29′) and Marcel Sobottka (41′).

Shortly after the change of sides, however, Männel was powerless. Jan Hochscheidt fouled Sobottka, Ginczek converted the penalty safely. Aue continued to show little offensively, Owusu’s connecting goal came as a surprise. Hennings made everything clear with his twelfth goal of the season.

SV Darmstadt 98 – Hansa Rostock 1: 1 (1: 0)

Darmstadt 98 missed the return to the top of the table. The lilies did not get better than 1:1 (1:0) against Hansa Rostock and remained without a win in the third game in a row. Nevertheless, the Hessians advanced to the relegation place.

After the setbacks against Hamburger SV (0:5) and at Hannover 96 (2:2), Darmstadt lost a lead despite being superior in their own stadium. Tobias Kempe (24th) scored when coach Torsten Lieberknecht returned after a corona infection, Danylo Sikan (65th) scored the important equalizer for Hansa. Rostock is still deep in the relegation battle.

Darmstadt needed something to get into the game. The hosts only took control after Kempe capitalized on a mistake by Ryan Malone in the lead. Hansa increased the pressure just before the break, but didn’t have any clear chances to score. In the second round, too, little changed in the dominance of the Darmstadt team. Sikan’s goal from a corner came out of nowhere. In the final phase, an open game developed.
