The third season of “Das Boot” starts. What’s the matter? Who’s in this time? How are the new episodes? Everything you need to know about the start of the season.

Season three of the award-winning Sky original series “Das Boot” is streaming today (May 14). The first two seasons ran at the end of 2018 and in spring 2020. The opening format by director Andreas Prochaska (57) was based, among other things, on Wolfgang Petersen’s (81) film of the same name from 1981 and began a year after its action. The episodes played partly in France. Directors Matthias Glasner (57) and Rick Ostermann (43) went to New York for a plot line in the second season.

And the new season also takes place in different locations. “In the third season, the series takes viewers to several spectacular locations: to the home front in Kiel, to neutral Lisbon and to a duel between a German submarine and a British destroyer,” explains Marcus Ammon, Managing Director Content and Producer “The Boat”, Bavaria Fiction. Episodes one to five were directed by Hans Steinbichler (“The Diary of Anne Frank”), episodes six to ten were the responsibility of Dennis Gansel (“The Wave”).

“‘Das Boot’ is constantly reinventing itself and illuminating the most diverse facets of war,” summarizes Ammon.

That’s what season three is about

A young submarine crew is sent on a dangerous mission to the southern hemisphere, caught up in the Battle of the Atlantic and hunted by a possessed Royal Navy commander. Under the direction of Robert Ehrenberg (Franz Dinda), strong personal alliances form within the crew. Ehrenberg himself finds redemption and family ties that he believed lost forever.

Meanwhile, in neutral Lisbon, where exiles, spies and the criminals of Europe stand by each other and their enemies, Hagen Forster (Tom Wlaschiha) uncovers a deadly plot to steal looted wartime gold. These discoveries, coupled with his own history and grim experiences on the Eastern Front, cause him to question his own actions and moral path. They also lead him to a shadowy figure involved in a conspiracy that could change the course of the war for the better. This man, also greatly changed by harrowing experiences, is Klaus Hoffmann (Rick Okon).

These two grown strands come together in an unexpected, suspenseful finale.

Who is playing this time?

In addition to the actors Tom Wlaschiha (“Game of Thrones”), Franz Dinda (“Die Wolke”), Rick Okon (“Tatort”) and Pierre Kiwitt (“Der Zürich Krimi”) known from the previous episodes, numerous actors act in the third season well-known German and international stars with:

Anna Schudt (“Tatort”), Luise Wolfram (“Tatort”), Elisa Schlott (“Narcissus and Goldmund”), Fritzi Haberlandt (“Babylon Berlin”), Trystan Pütter (“Toni Erdmann”), Johann von Bülow (“Frantz “), Franz Hartwig (“Der Pass”), Joana Ribeiro (“The Man Who Killed Don Quixote”), Florian Panzner (“Dark”), Ray Stevenson (“Dexter”), Ernst Stötzner (“Brecht”), Artjom Gilz (“Milk & Honey”) and Jo Hartley (“After Life”).

Again the film was shot in several languages, this time the cast and crew spoke German, English and Portuguese on the set.

How are the new episodes?

Fans of seasons one and two will also enjoy the new episodes. The completely different story is exciting, touching and fabulously acted. The individual episodes are again elaborately and very atmospherically produced. Boring repetitions in the plot? None! And if you only start with season three anyway, you will be sufficiently picked up by the cross-season storylines. In short: successful and sophisticated streaming entertainment.

The broadcast

The ten new episodes can be seen in double episodes on Sky One from May 14, 2022, every Saturday from 8:15 p.m. It starts with the episodes “A Second Chance” and “New Orders”. The full season is available on the streaming service Sky Ticket and via Sky Q on demand.

What’s next?

Sky has already announced that filming for the fourth season will begin in June this year. The six episodes will again be staged by Gansel. Nothing is known about the content so far. There is also no broadcast date yet.
