The second season of the Sky series "Das Boot" celebrated its free TV premiere on ZDF on Sunday – with moderate ratings.

The second season of the Sky series "Das Boot" was shown on free TV for the first time on Sunday evening (December 27). While the premiere of the first season brought about 4.5 million viewers to ZDF, the broadcaster drove two weak ratings for the start of the season.

According to "DWDL", the first three episodes shown only attracted 2.18 million viewers in front of the television at prime time. The market share was only 7.0 percent. In comparison, the "Polizeiruf 110: The Condemned" took the primetime victory with 8.21 million viewers (24.4 percent market share). Even Sat.1 got a few more viewers (2.21 million) with the US comedy "Manhattan Queen".

"Das Boot" on three consecutive evenings

Will the next two free TV attempts be more successful? This Monday (December 28th, 8:15 pm) and next Tuesday (December 29th, 2020, 10:15 pm) ZDF will be showing the other parts of the second "Das Boot" season.

"Das Boot", directed by Andreas Prochaska (55), is based, among other things, on Wolfgang Petersen's (79) film of the same name from 1981 and begins a year after its action. In November 2018, the Sky series about the story of a young submarine crew celebrated its premiere. From January 3, 2020, it was on the ZDF main program. The second season was broadcast on Sky 1 from April 24, 2020. Filming for the third season should be completed in spring 2021.
