Artificial Intelligence to enrich sensor data

– On the occasion of the Paris Air Show 2023, the results of the work of the “Paris Region AI Challenge for Industry” were presented to Éric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, and to Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île- of France. They were also subject to a
keynote
organized with the ASTech competitiveness cluster; a great way to end this initiative launched at the Paris Air Show 2019.
As a reminder, the Île-de-France region offers challenges to major players in the health, energy and industry sectors, and to talents in the Ile-de-France region, as part of its plan on artificial intelligence. launched in 2017.
The “Paris Region AI Challenge for Industry”, endowed with 500,000 euros, was won by a
consortium
made up of a research team from the ISAE-Supméca school and the company Aquila Data Enabler, a benchmark player in AI R&D in France. THE
consortium
was thus able to carry out an 18-month collaborative project with Dassault Aviation.
The work focused on the development of “virtual sensors”, ie statistical models of sensors making it possible to enrich the measurements available in an aircraft. The algorithms are based on
deep learning,
and more specifically on generative artificial intelligence methods. They were trained on Falcon flight test data made available by Dassault Aviation and then deployed within ”
TimeFlow”,
platform developed by Aquila Data Enabler for the processing, analysis and forecasting of sensor data and time series.
Dassault Aviation intends to continue this collaboration by taking control of the models within its engineering teams and will continue to support the winners in their research work on the hybridization of physical models and models

The challenge and the collaborative project will have enabled the development of tools based on Artificial Intelligence useful to any sector of activity exploiting temporal data, as well as the carrying out of research work in public-private partnership.
“We are working on the implementation of digital twins of our civil and military aircraft in service. This alliance of Big Data and AI is very promising, in particular to facilitate the maintenance of devices by anticipating their problems. In this context, the Challenge has helped us to enrich a type of analysis relating to the “mechanical health” of aircraft structures. The selected algorithms indeed contribute, through a finer knowledge of the mechanical stress undergone by our devices, to the optimization of our maintenance programs and, ultimately, to the design of lighter, more fuel-efficient structures”, declared Eric Trappier, CEO of Dassault Aviation.
For the president of the region Valérie Pécresse, “playing a catalytic role in collaboration between large groups on the one hand and startups, SMEs and ETIs on the other, is an essential issue for the Île-de-France region. . An international hub of innovation, an environment for training scientific talents among the most successful in the world, it remains the most attractive in Europe for direct investment and benefits from a very attractive AI ecosystem. This challenge and its fine results demonstrate, if need be, that the technological challenges associated with the decarbonization of transport require the cooperation of all energies under the impetus of the public authorities. As part of our development and innovation strategy IMPACT 2028, our desire is clear: to make Île-de-France the European champion in strategic innovations, because it is
ultimately
a matter of sovereignty. I therefore congratulate Dassault, Aquila Data Enabler and ISAE-Supméca for their work, and I give an appointment to all AI startups for the next challenge around the energy transition with RTE open until July 2”.
