RTL guest this Thursday, January 27, Rachida Dati answered questions from Alba Ventura on Yves Calvi’s show. The former Keeper of the Seals spoke about the campaign of Valérie Pécresse but also about the situation of Anne Hidalgo during a heated exchange with the journalist.
While Valérie Pécresse is often criticized for not being the candidate of the working classes, the mayor of 7and district of Paris Rachida Dati wishes to encourage her to raise awareness among the poorest French people. “A President of the Republic who gets elected without the working classes will have difficulty either governing or reforming the country,” she declared on RTL. “We cannot forget the crisis of the yellow vests (…) this campaign must, beyond bringing together our political family and the more privileged French people, bring together these French people,” she added. Yet today, it is Marine Le Pen who seduces the working classes on the right. The major problem for Mayor LR is purchasing power and the devaluation of work: “today work no longer pays, we have devalued work,” she declared. Politics should not be a “catalogue of measures” with an inflation check here and an energy check there.
For her, the campaign has not really started
The journalist then asked her why Valérie Pécresse does not stand out from Marine Le Pen or Éric Zemmour in the polls. “What does that mean she doesn’t come off?” “Replied dryly Rachida Dati. “The campaign is not really launched (…) when Emmanuel Macron will be a candidate, the debates will really be launched” she retorted. And when Alba Ventura pointed out to him that the program of candidate LR was centered on authority, security and purchasing power, like Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007, the former Minister of Justice was indignant. “In a big country, we want authority, security, we want inequalities to be reduced,” she replied.
Invited to speak on Anne Hidalgo’s bad patch in the presidential campaign, Rachida Dati clarified that there is “a difference between giving up and stubbornness”. She accused the mayor of Paris of being responsible for the current degraded state of the capital, saying that “Paris would not be in this state if she were in her place”. For her, “the socialist demonstrates her loss of legitimacy and her non-credibility.” She added: “the French don’t want a country in decline, when you see the state of Paris, they don’t want France to become like Paris.” According to her, “Anne Hidalgo will have to draw conclusions from her result in this presidential election”, and she would not be surprised to see the Socialist Party “go to shreds” at the end of this campaign.
