First date, first kiss, first feelings… The start of a romantic relationship is marked by an infinite number of first times. The first night together is also an important step for the couple but also… for the quality of sleep! Sharing a bed can indeed disrupt the habits and nights of some people. What are the biggest apprehensions of single people when they think about the first night with their future crush? The dating app Happn and the pillow brand Wopilo carried out a survey in March 2024 among 1,851 Happn users to find out.

First night for two: here’s what single people fear the most

If 63% of singles surveyed indicate that they are comfortable with the idea of ​​sleeping for the first time as a couple, certain fears can nevertheless interfere with this projection. The survey revealed their biggest fears and these are:

  • fear of moving too much;
  • fear of snoring;
  • bad breath ;
  • appearance when waking up;
  • being seen in pajamas.

As a couple or single: what impact on sleep, according to the French?

Furthermore, the survey also reveals that being single would negatively influence the quality of sleep of 61% of the single people surveyed. 43% of them indicate that they sometimes have difficulty falling asleep because of a feeling of sadness due to sleeping alone (42%), anxiety (32%), the time spent behind screens (24%) and health problems (2%).

To overcome these sleeping difficulties, 82% of singles believe that sleeping together is the solution. But can this solution really last over time? “Sleep divorce”, which consists of sleeping without your partner in order to have a better night’s sleep, is considered as a solution by some couples. According to an Appinio study carried out for Emma in February 2024, 33% of French people have already tested or thought about trying this method. Some couples adopt another method: that of Scandinavian sleeping, which consists of no longer using one and the same blanket, but two duvets!
