Dhe daughter of radical Russian nationalist Alexandr Dugin, Darja Dugina, was killed in a car bomb explosion near Moscow on Saturday evening. According to media reports, Dugina was returning from a festival called “Tradition” in Zakharovo about two dozen kilometers west of the Russian capital in one of her father’s SUVs when an explosive device detonated in the vehicle.
It is now being determined because of murder with means dangerous to the public; it is assumed that Dugin himself could have been the target of the attack. Allegedly, he and his daughter wanted to ride in the same vehicle. However, Dugin decided on a different car at short notice. Recordings from the scene of the event, which were first distributed on Telegram and then also broadcast on state television, are said to show the shocked Dugin in front of the burning vehicle and rubble.
Dugin, 60, is a prominent supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin and a great Moscow-led “Eurasia” that the West must confront. Members of Dugin’s “Eurasian Movement” fought and fell in eastern Ukraine from 2014 onwards. Dugin himself called for “kill, kill, kill” Ukrainian “fascists”. For a long time he served as editor-in-chief of the medium “Zargrad”; it was founded by businessman Konstantin Malofeev and stands for imperialism and monarchism with Putin as the new “Tsar”.
Dugin’s daughter shared his ideology
Dugin’s 29-year-old daughter also worked for Zargrad and state broadcaster RT, helping her father, whose ideology she shared. She also ran a Telegram channel under the pseudonym “Platonova” with almost 17,000 subscribers to support the “special operation”, as the war against Ukraine is called in Russia. In a recent interview, Dugina expressed pride that she and her father had been sanctioned in the “clash of civilizations” with the West. The United States and Britain had slapped Dugina with punitive measures for spreading “false information” about the war.
Alexandr Dugin has been under Western sanctions for years for an alleged role in the annexation of Crimea. Dugin, who is also an esotericist, viewed the 2014 Russian land grab in Ukraine as a “Russian Spring” and revival project, and championed a “Novorossiya” (New Russia) in eastern Ukraine. After Putin had temporarily abandoned this project under the impression of Ukrainian resistance and Western sanctions, things had calmed down around the man with a beard, who appeared as a philosopher, political scientist and sociologist, and whom the Western media wanted to see as Putin’s “mastermind”.
Dugin vehemently supports the war. He recently called on “all senior officials in Russia” to comment on the “special operation” and, if necessary, to vacate their posts. “Some are kind of suspiciously silent,” Dugin said. “At least say the letter Z loud and clear,” Dugin urged those affected, looking at the symbol of support for the war, “or get out of our sight.” Russian ultra-nationalists and the “head” of the Donetsk “People’s Republic”, Denis Pushilin, blamed Ukraine for the explosion. “Terrorists of the Ukrainian regime” wanted to “liquidate” Dugin and blew up his daughter.
