Dave Franco: For "To The Extreme" he becomes cult rapper Vanilla Ice

The film "To The Extreme" will document the life of rapper Vanilla Ice. The leading role of the 90s cult star is played by Dave Franco.

Vanilla Ice (52, "Ice, Ice Baby") was one of the first white rappers to achieve great success in the 1990s. A film is now being made in Hollywood about the life of the Florida rapper. The main role in "To The Extreme" is played by Dave Franco (35, "6 Underground"). In an interview with "Insider", the California actor spoke for the first time about the biggest role of his career so far.

In preparation for his role as Vanilla Ice, Franco has made several calls to Robert Van Winkle – the real name of the rapper. In the interview, the actor was quite impressed: "Rob is such a nice and intelligent guy." The 52-year-old musician was of great help in correctly grasping the details and provided information that had so far not been available to the public.

Screen star Franco wants to tackle his latest film project as well as "The Disaster Artist" from 2017. The film, in which the 35-year-old can be seen together with his older brother James Franco (42), sketches the story of the genesis of independent film " The Room "by and with Tommy Wiseau (64), who achieved cult status after being released in 2003 as one of the worst films in history. "The more real we played it, the funnier and heart-warming it got," said Franco, who will soon make his directorial debut with "The Rental".

"To The Extreme" took first place for 16 weeks

The screenplay for "To the Extreme" by Chris Goodwin and Phillip Van already landed on the so-called "Black List" of Hollywood in 2018 – an annual list of the most popular yet unrealized projects. The title of the film is also the name of the Vanilla Ice album from 1990, with which the rapper celebrated his breakthrough and topped the US charts for 16 weeks. The hit "Ice, Ice Baby", which is based on a sample of the song "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie (1947 – 2016), can also be found on the LP.

Because of the corona pandemic, it is still unclear when exactly the filming of the film biography "To The Extreme" will begin.
