The King’s Foundation awards ceremony in London on the evening of June 11 was in a good mood. King Charles III, 75, chatted and laughed with his guests, among whom were several celebrities. Rod Stewart, 79, and his wife greeted Charles with kisses on the cheek, and he chatted with David Beckham, 49, about the upcoming European Championships. Actress Sienna Miller, 42, and model Naomi Campbell, 54, also came to the event at St. James’ Palace.

“Great honor to be a knight”

Not only the king was in a good mood, rock star Stewart was also in a joking mood and said that David Beckham could soon receive a special honour. He himself was knighted by Prince William, 41, in 2016 and has been able to call himself “Sir” ever since. Rod Stewart gave a short speech at the awards ceremony and predicted that the 49-year-old football legend would soon be able to enjoy it too. In a video, which the “Daily Mail” showshe said, including his wife Penny Lancaster, 53: “Penny and I are so honoured to be ambassadors for the King’s Foundation. It is also a great honour for me to be a knight. David, yours is coming soon.”

The former captain of the English national team could then join the long list of sports stars who have received such an honour, including Bobby Charlton (1937-2023) and Alex Ferguson, 82. Beckham was awarded the British Order of Merit (OBE) for his services to football in 2003. The football star was recently introduced as an ambassador for the King’s Foundation, and British media were already speculating whether this was a step towards a knighthood.

Nine prizes awarded

The King’s Foundation Awards are designed to honour the foundation’s students, teachers, alumni and partners. A total of nine awards were presented on the evening. The foundation offers educational courses and leads regeneration projects across the UK, guided by the monarch’s long-standing ethic of working in harmony with nature.
