David Duchovny owes his fame mainly to the series “The X-Files”. Now he revealed that he almost turned down the role.

“The X-Files – The Scary Cases of the FBI” without David Duchovny (60)? Hard to imagine, but it almost got that far. The actor, who played Fox Mulder in the popular US television series from the 1990s, almost turned down the role of his life like him in an episode of the podcast “Literally! With Rob Lowe” tells. At the time, he was not convinced that the show would be a success, says the actor with a Princeton degree. “At the same time I was hired by a director friend of mine for another film and had to choose between it and the ‘The X-Files’ pilot,” explains Duchovny. “I told my agents that I didn’t want to do this. She was a friend and I didn’t mean to let her down.”

At that time he could not have imagined where the series “The X-Files” would lead. “It’s about aliens. How long is that supposed to go? It’s a good pilot, but you either see the aliens or you don’t,” he thought at the time. “I wasn’t interested in conspiracy theories. So I was completely ready to give up the role.” But luckily for Duchovnys, his agents were able to convince him to shoot the pilot episode. For the actor today it is “scary” to think that he almost missed the opportunity: “If I hadn’t opened this door, none of this would have happened.”
