On the wedding day, Elton John's husband posted a political statement that homosexuality is still banned in many countries.

Singer Elton John (73, "Your Song") and his husband David Furnish (58) celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary on Monday. Furnish took advantage of this special date and posted a political message on Instagram. The 58-year-old made it clear that it is still illegal to be LGBT in over 70 countries – in twelve countries it would even carry the death penalty.

The famous musician and the Canadian film producer met at a Halloween party in 1993. They registered their civil partnership on December 21, 2005 and finally married in 2014 after marriage was made possible for homosexuals in the UK. The couple have two sons: Zachary (9) and Elijah (7).

Elton John, who came out late, suffered for decades from discrimination that he had to endure at home. In 1976 John came out as bisexual in an interview with Rolling Stone. It took John's mother over a decade to make peace with her son's relationship. It was only shortly before her death in 2017 that the two reconciled.
