Years after the divorce, Cora and Ralf Schumacher’s relationship is back in the headlines. And right in the middle: son David Schumacher. He’s now giving a rare interview that Mama Cora shouldn’t like.

He has contact with his mother Cora Schumacher, 47 David Schumacher, 22, dropped out a long time ago. While she is sometimes more or less brave in the “jungle camp”, her son is on holiday in his dad’s villa in Cape Town. The “Bild” newspaper met him there for a rare interview. In the photos, Ralf Schumacher, 48, David and his girlfriend Vivien Keszthelyi, 23, appear to be overjoyed and beam into the camera. David doesn’t seem to notice that his mother revealed intimate details about her marriage to Ralf just a few hours ago. He still has a clear opinion about his parents’ relationship.

David Schumacher: “My parents’ separation didn’t hurt me”

The journalist first asked David about his parents’ divorce in 2015. He should answer whether the separation hurt the now 22-year-old. David’s statement sounds clear: “No, the separation didn’t hurt me. At the time there were often tensions at home, and I already thought back then that the separation was a good decision. I have come to terms with it […]. That wasn’t a problem for me because both parents seemed happier and it worked out better.”

David has a “closer bond with my father than with my mother”

Today David lives with his father in an apartment in Salzburg. After Ralf and Cora separated, he was more drawn to his father. The bond between the two men still seems unbroken today – a parent-child relationship that Cora can only dream of. David’s statement about this decision is likely to be particularly painful for the “Jungle Camp” candidate: “I always felt very comfortable with my father as a child and still do today. I had the feeling that I had a closer bond with my father than with my mother , and we understood each other better.”

Shared experiences like this should be a thing of the past for Cora and David Schumacher: In August 2022, she accompanied her son to a race at the Nürnburgring.

Ralf was “definitely stricter” as a father than Mama Cora, “but it still works today,” sums up David. “In my view it was and is the right decision.” When asked about the alleged break in contact with his mother, David doesn’t want to say anything. At the end he makes it clear once again that, despite everything, he still thinks about her sometimes: “She will somehow manage the jungle camp and come back alive. I really wish her the best of luck.”
