Computer attacks disrupted Crédit Agricole’s websites and applications yesterday in the afternoon, making its services inaccessible to the bank’s customers for several hours. Access to services had been restored by the end of the afternoon. Initially, the bank had indicated that it was facing “technical problems” but confirmed to Le Parisien that it had been the subject of a cyberattack aimed at “disrupting access to the Crédit agricole. fr site and the “Ma Banque” application. The bank assures that customer data was not affected by this cyberattack.
Earlier in the week, La Poste group sites were also targeted by DDoS attacks. The attack made the group’s website inaccessible on the morning of Tuesday February 6. If here too, the company had initially announced a “hosting incident”, La Poste confirmed with Next Inpact that the service interruption was indeed caused by a DDoS attack and also ensured that its customers’ data were not not in danger.
More fear than harm
The attacks were claimed by a group of activists known as the Turk Hack Team: a claim that took place first on a Telegram account, and then this morning on its official social media accounts. On Twitter, the group thus explains having carried out DDoS attacks against the web pages of Crédit Agricole, and also claims a DDoS attack which targeted the Anssi website during the day on Monday. On the Telegram channel, members of the group also announced the attack targeting the La Poste site.
The group promises to carry out other attacks against French companies and institutions, explaining that this operation aims to protest against a planned delivery of weapons and equipment by France to Armenia.
In October 2023, France agreed to the delivery of military equipment to the Armenian government, currently in conflict with Azerbaijan, a country supported by Turkey. Since last November, the Turk Hack Team group has therefore claimed responsibility for computer attacks targeting French institutions and companies. This group founded in the early 2000s presents itself as a cyber army of Turkish volunteers claiming a nationalist ideology.
