Deadly trap near Pokrovsk
Hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers face encirclement

In the Donbass, Russian troops are steadily advancing towards Pokrovsk. South of the city, a highly dangerous scenario is developing for Ukraine. Soldiers from various units are at risk of being surrounded by Moscow’s troops.

The Russian advance on Pokrovsk is creating a dangerous situation for several Ukrainian units holding the front south of the city. They are in danger of being encircled by Moscow’s troops, reports “Forbes”.

Strong Russian forces have now moved to within a few kilometers of Pokrovsk, apparently bypassing Ukrainian forces holding the line between the village of Memryk and the Vovcha River, which stretches three miles east of Memryk from north to south.

According to Forbes, the Russian advance is creating a dangerous situation that could become a deadly trap. The salient held by Ukraine now extends into the Russian lines. With a few successful maneuvers, the Russian forces could be cut off from any possibility of retreat.

The sector includes parts of various units that are now dependent on the 25th Airborne Brigade. This holds the northern end of the salient near the village of Ukrainsk and a Russian breakthrough there would make it possible to encircle the remaining units. According to the Forbes report, the Ukrainian unit is also using German-made Marder infantry fighting vehicles in its defense.

It is suspected that the Ukrainian side may already be retreating to positions further west to avoid the danger of being surrounded by Russian forces. Abandoning the area would leave the Russians with almost 70 square kilometers of land.

However, Ukraine can hardly risk losing troops by not retreating. The Ukrainian lines have already been thinned out by the simultaneous offensive in the Kursk region of Ukraine, and the defense of the city of Pokrovsk is already likely to be a very difficult undertaking due to Russia’s superior strength.
