What if the lifeline of the Marvel universe in cinema was Deadpool? At least that’s what director Matthew Vaughn thinks. During an intervention aimed at promoting his new film Argyle in the Post-Credit podcast, he explained that Deadpool 3 would give the MCU the boost it needs.

Deadpool to the rescue

According to Vaughn, Shawn Levy’s film, expected in theaters next July, will have the effect of an electric shock on the Marvel universe:

“What little I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure Ryan and Hugh are bickering about it as we talk about it — is incredible.”Vaughn said.

“The movie is going to be a shock… The Marvel Universe is about to experience a shock that will resuscitate it… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the entire Marvel Universe.”

Himself a fan of X-Men, so Vaughn hopes that Wolverine’s return to the big screen will be a success. If the director of Kingsman is not personally involved in Deadpool 3the Marvel universe is not unknown to him since he achieved the successful X-Men: The Beginning in 2011.

A universe in decline

Matthew Vaughn is right to hope that Deadpool 3 will resurrect the MCU, because the latter is in difficulty. Since the end of phase 3 and the release of Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Marvel Studios films are struggling to convince both the public and critics, which some justify by a general fatigue with superhero films.

The latest, The Marvelsonly grossed $206 million worldwide, becoming the MCU’s lowest-grossing film so far.

At any rate, Deadpool 3scheduled to hit our screens on July 24, is the only MCU film to be released in theaters in 2024. Enough to create an event for a studio which has perhaps flooded its fans too much with content in recent years, by giving them the opportunity to breathe to better welcome the new adventures of Deadpool.
