With sales of over a billion dollars, “Deadpool & Wolverine” turns out to be a box office hit. Now the film has broken another record.

The superhero film “Deadpool & Wolverine” is turning out to be a huge box office success. The latest record: The Marvel spectacle with Ryan Reynolds (47) and Hugh Jackman (55) in the lead roles is now the world’s highest-grossing film with a so-called R rating, i.e. a US age restriction for under-17s. In Germany, however, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has been given an FSK 16 rating.

By Thursday, the film had grossed 1.086 billion US dollars worldwide – 518.8 million in the USA, 568.8 million in the rest of the world. This put it ahead of another superhero film adaptation: In October 2019, Todd Philips (53) took over the top spot in this ranking from “Joker” with Joaquin Phoenix (49). Ryan Reynolds himself spread the news on his Instagram account, where he shared the official announcement from industry magazine “Deadline”. Last weekend, “Deadpool & Wolverine” broke the one billion mark, becoming the 55th film overall and only the second with an R rating – logically after “Joker”.

Ryan Reynolds finds it hard to deal with the success of “Deadpool & Wolverine”

Reynolds reacted with disbelief to the strong visitor numbers after the opening weekend. In an Instagram story, he said that the huge success was “difficult for him to process.”
