Death of Earl Boen, the incredulous shrink of the Terminator saga


Earl Boen, known for his role as Dr. Peter Silberman in the “Terminator” films, died on Thursday.

Earl Boen, veteran actor and voice actor, has died in Hawaii at the age of 81. As Variety reports, and according to a friend and family, he had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in the fall of 2022.

Earl Boen was best known for starring in Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) by James Cameron and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) by Jonathan Mostow, in which he played Doctor Peter Silberman, an incredulous criminal psychologist brought in to interview Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) in the first film. He also appeared in archive footage from Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019.

A PROLIFIC CAREER

Born on August 8, 1941, Earl Boen has tried his hand at several genres throughout his career: series, films and video games, the actor-dubber has been a real jack-of-all-trades.

Very prolific – he has no less than 191 credits, all projects combined – he appeared in the fantastic comedy The Man with Two Brains (1983) with Steve Martin, or in the action film Designated to Die (1990) with Steven Seagal, in addition to his cult role in the Terminator franchise alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and many other film productions.

On the television side, the actor is best known for playing Reverend Lloyd Meechum on the 1980s sitcom Mama’s Family. Over the years, he has been seen in a good number of series such as MASH, Wonder Woman, Sheriff, scare me!, Madam is served, Baywatch, Seinfeld, Family life, Lois and Clark, the new adventures of Superman or even At the White House.

But Earl Boen has also distinguished himself as a voice actor and has given life to many animated characters such as that of Mr. Bleakman in Clifford, the big red dog and Señor Senior Sr. in Kim Possible. On the video game side, he was the narrator of World of Warcraft and doubled captain LeChuck of the games Monkey Island. He also lent his voice to Magneto in the TV movie Pryde of the X-Men and the Colossus character in the video game X-Men Legends.

Earl Boen is survived by his wife Cathy, his daughter Ruby and his grandchildren Kimmy Abaricia and Kimo Harbin.
