Death of Eya Guezguez (17 years old): the poignant tribute of his twin sister, present at the time of the tragedy

It is a drama that has shaken the world of sport. Last Sunday, while taking part in a training session, the young Eya Guezguez died. The boat in which she was with her twin sister Sarra overturned because of the wind and the young woman did not manage to get out of it, unlike her sister, who survived the sinking. The two women had participated in the 49er FX event at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo at the age of 16, becoming the two youngest athletes in the Olympics.

You died fighting for the sport you loved

A real tragedy for Sarra, who loses the one who accompanied her day to day, in training and in competitions, as in their family life. If an investigation has been opened to determine the exact causes of the tragedy, Sarra wanted to pay a last tribute to her twin on her Instagram account. The young woman has published a moving video montage which includes multiple photos of her and Eya, which she accompanied with a poignant message. “You left this world and took with you all the beauty that never existed. You were my sun, my light and my angel, but fate decided to take you from me, for another world, I hope. You are a model for the next generations of skippers. You died fighting for the sport you loved”she wrote.

A particularly hard test for the young skipper, who will have to deal with the absence of her twin sister. She concludes this last tribute with a few words that show all the love and attachment that existed between Eya and her. “We will never forget your smile, your courage and your generosity. You are loved little angel, so much, and I hope you are watching over us from above. Rest in peace little flower.
