Died at the age of 37 this Wednesday, January 19 following a terrible skiing accident, actor Gaspard Ulliel leaves behind a six-year-old son, Orso, whom he loved dearly.
The world of cinema has lost one of its greatest talents. Victim of a serious ski accident this Tuesday, January 18 in La Rosière, in Savoie, actor Gaspard Ulliel succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday January 19. He was 37 years old. According to the first elements of the investigation, he was the victim of a collision with another skier during a crossing between two blue slopes. Initially hospitalized at the Grenoble University Hospital in serious condition, Gaspard Ulliel was unconscious. Suffering from a major head trauma, he was operated on Wednesday, in vain.
Revealed to the general public at the age of 19 in the film “The Lost Ones” alongside Emmanuelle Béart, his interpretation of a First World War soldier in “A long engagement Sunday” won him the César for best male hope in 2005. The role of his life dates from 2014, during which this son of two stylists played the famous couturier Yves Saint-Laurent in the famous biopic of the same name. In 2017, he won the César for best actor for his role in “Just the end of the world” by Xavier Dolan.
Gaspard Ulliel: “Paternity gives you a reason to live”
Behind him, this incredible talent of French cinema leaves a wife, the model Gaëlle Pietri, and a six-year-old son, Orso. The relationship between Gaspard Ulliel and his little boy was also very touching, as on his fifth birthday, where a video of him had been published by Gaëlle Pietri. On the images, Orso appeared armed with his armbands on his surfboard, with his dad’s encouragement in the background.
The actor had also indulged in a few secrets about his role as a father in the columns of Madame Figaro, in 2016, with words that could not be more poignant: “It’s a huge upheaval. What was of extreme importance yesterday seems trivial today. Fatherhood brings you back to something very concrete, fills a void you didn’t necessarily know about, gives you a reason to live“. A terrible tragedy.
