According to his daughter Fanny Pernoud, the famous presenter is "died in a hospital in the Paris region following a long illness ". If the nature of the disease was not specified by his relatives, Erik Berg, former colleague of Georges Pernoud, gave more information on the end of his friend's life in an interview with the Parisian. "He was surrounded by many friends until Covid-19 and by his family until the last moment. I was prepared for it. He had been in a coma for five days and we had turned off his oxygen " he confided before continuing: "He had been living with Alzheimer's for over two years (…) He couldn't remember me or his shows. "
A moving speech
On Saturday January 16, 2021 took place the funeral of Georges Pernoud. The event took place in a town dear to his heart, the town of Monestier, in the Dordogne. A particularly moving ceremony during which Fanny and Julie, the daughters of the famous journalist, showed him their love, as reported by Parisian. Accompanied by their mother, the duo then addressed a last farewell to Georges Pernoud. It's our turn to say good luck ". Once the ceremony was over, Georges Pernoud was buried in the strictest privacy.
