Actress Helen McCrory died of breast cancer on April 16, 2021, aged just 52. The star, well known to fans of the saga Harry Potter in which she played the character of Narcissa Malfoy, left behind a grieving clan of two children and her comedian husband Damian Lewis. After the announcement of the death of his wife, the actor had published a touching message in which he saluted his memory and his talent. On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, Damian Lewis again highlighted “the perfect Helen” by speaking publicly for the first time. He took part in an evening of poetry at the Royal National Theater in London, in front of 900 people. On this occasion, he recited a passage from Everything is going to be All Right, a text written by the Irish poet Derek Mahon. “This evening is dedicated to her and that’s perfect because Helen loved the National Theatre. If there was anyone who wouldn’t have been upstaged, it was Helen McCrory.“, he proclaimed, under the eyes of their children Manon (15 years old) and Gulliver (14 years old).

During this evening – which was also the occasion to launch the book A Poet for Every Day of the Year (by Allie Byrne Esiri), a video of Helen McCrory was also released, in which she could be heard reciting poetry. A previous filmed performance during which she recited Wild Geese by Mary Oliver. A very moving moment during which her husband Damian Lewis was spotted with his eyes closed, soaking up his voice. A standing ovation then broke out at the end of the broadcast.
