Hollywood is mourning the loss of director Ivan Reitman. Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, historic members of the “Ghostbusters” saga, but also Arnold Schwarzenegger, paid him a vibrant tribute.
Ivan Reitman, the director of the first two Ghostbusters, died this Saturday at the age of 75. The actors Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, historical members of the ectoplasmic saga, as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had worked with the filmmaker in the comedies Twins, A cop in kindergarten and Junior, paid him a moving tribute.
“To have lost my friend, my collaborator and one of the last brilliant creative talents of the great period of the seventh art hurts me”thus declared Dan Aykroydthe Raymond Stantz of Ghostbusters. “Who am I going to call every Thursday from now on?” (obvious reference to Who you gonna call? cult of the saga)
Ernie HudsonWho embodies Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters, also reacted on social networks. “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Ivan Reitman”he commented. “He was truly a great man and a great filmmaker, and it was an honor and a privilege to know him and work alongside him.”
Arnold Schwarzeneggerfor his part, confided that working with Ivan Reitman was an experience “heavenly”. The actor, who was to find the filmmaker for The Triplets, the sequel to Twins, added: “Spending the past few years working with him on this project, and again observing his passion and genius so closely, was a joy.”
“My fifty-year-old friend is gone and I’m very, very sad”confided, meanwhile, Danny DeVito, who had given the reply to Schwarzenegger in Twins.
Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, who had taken up the torch by directing the recent Ghostbusters: Legacy, posted a message on social networks to pay tribute to his dad: “I lost my hero”.
“He came from a family of survivors and turned his legacy into laughter”he continued. “Thank you for your kind messages. Enjoy his movies and remember his storytelling gifts. Nothing would make him happier.”
“I’m in absolute shock”finally entrusted Paul Feig, who had produced the female reboot of the saga in 2016. “I had the honor of working very closely with Ivan, and it was always a great learning experience.”
“He directed some of my favorite comedies of all time”concluded the director. All of us who work in comedy owe him so much. Thanks for everything Ivan. Truly.”
