Death of Jacques Delors: Emmanuel Macron salutes a “statesman with a French destiny”

President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute on Wednesday to Jacques Delors, former president of the European Commission, who died at the age of 98. The Head of State praised “his total commitment, his ideals and his righteousness”. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne also paid tribute to “a visionary and architect of the European Union”.

President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute on Wednesday to the “inexhaustible architect of our Europe” who was the former President of the European Commission Jacques Delors, who died earlier in the day. “His commitment, his ideals and his righteousness will always inspire us. I salute his work and his memory and share the pain of his loved ones,” reacted the Head of State on X (formerly Twitter).

“Statesman with a French destiny. Inexhaustible architect of our Europe. Fighter for human justice. Jacques Delors was all of that,” added the head of state.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne sees in Jacques Delors “a visionary and architect of the European Union” to whom she also pays tribute. “Tireless craftsman of an ideal: his whole life has been put at the service of peace and European solidarity. I am thinking of the euro or even Erasmus. My thoughts to his family and loved ones,” declared the chef of the government on X.
