The two artists had notably played together in the film Comedy by Jacques Doillon. “I knew she was not well, but from there to die…” confided the singer, stunned by the disappearance of Jane Birkin. “She was an extraordinary person, she was very melancholic and at the same time she hid it with perpetual traits of humor. She knew she was amusing people, everyone laughed with her. She was a character marvellous”, recalls Alain Souchon, sharing tender memories with the singer. “She was capable of a lot of things, she was excessive and wonderful at the same time. She was someone special.”

Alain Souchon: “She was very funny”

Alain Souchon takes the opportunity to remember a funny anecdote experienced with Jane Birkin: “Once she was excited because I had vomited. I felt sick to my stomach, I asked the car to stop. She said to me: ‘oh yes, vomit, vomit’. She was very funny” he remembers. For him, Jane Birkin represented “a work of art” on her own. “Her face, her profile were a work of art. Her way of being was quite particular, she had a way of speaking, of waving her arms, of dressing. Like a work of art it is unique” he explains. As for his relationship with Serge Gainsbourg, Alain Souchon qualifies him as “mythical”. “They are both iconic, they left a dazzling mark in the films, their ways, the interviews.” The two artists had both starred in the film Comedy, released in 1988 and had for the occasion sung on the track of the same name. Jane Birkin called Alain Souchon a “exceptional friend.” Since the announcement of his death, many artists have already paid tribute to the late singer, icon in the world of music.
